Because the appearances of Contretemps characters are highly variable, the description section of the join form will be listed (alphabetically by character name) in this thread.
Abel He has the lower body of a very large squirrel and the upper body of a very small human child. His reddish fur grows up past his hips and above that he has tan human skin with a strange red hue. He has the characteristic pale cream stripe up from his hips and belly to his throat. His hair is a bit long and scruffy and is slightly darker in colour than his fur. His ears are shaped like a squirrel's with pronounced tuffs and his face extends to a very slight muzzle. His face is mostly human with somewhat animalistic characteristics such as his nose resembles a squirrel's as do some of his teeth. He can speak english fairly well but struggles from time to time. He has a large, fluffy squirrel tail that he frequently plays with. His hands are long fingered and he has slight claws formed from dark finger nails. Upright, he stands about 2' tall and could grow to be as tall as 4'.
Anastas A young man with stiff brown skin and an immobile face, marked by an insect’s protruding black faceted eyes and stiff antenna. His arms are gangling but human; along his flanks, however, sprouting randomly from his flesh, are a half dozen pairs of crane fly limbs, long and given to spasmodic movement. Transparent wings fold demurely across his back, and give an occasional twitch; such movements speak more for his emotions than his face.
Arakeet A roughly dinnerplate sized winged tarantula creature. Arakeet has eight legs ending in pinkish, four-fingered birds' feet rather than the normal tarsus. Her body is is mostly dark brown and bristled, but her cephalothroax is covered in soft blue feathers. Wings protrude from the margins of her carapace and, defiant of reason, are fully functional. The chelicerae look like the upper mandible of a bird's beak - hard, chitinous, and yellow - but curve down to wicked black points fully capable of invenomation. The largest pair of eyes are somewhat bigger than normal and are very clearly birds eyes with striking gold irises and reactive pupils; the rest are small, black, and closely grouped. Internally, Arakeet is even more peculiar, posessing a skeleton in addition to an exoskeleton... a really freaking weird skeleton, mind you... and both air sacs and book lungs.
Ardelis Murray She has predominantly canine features. Her body is covered in a jackal's pelt. Looks a bit like this. Especially the colours and her face. She has hind legs like a jackal but has the ability to walk on two legs or all fours. Her hands are paws with longer fingers than what you'd normally see on a jackal. Thus, she has slight use of human-like hands, but they tend to be clumsy. She is currently trying to relearn how to write so she can regain some level of communication. She maintains the appearance of small breasts, but they are furred. She also has the usual mammae (4) along her underbelly. She tends to walk upright and only use all fours if she needs to move faster.
Azalee Enola Moretti She unusual pigmentation for a human. Her skin is predominately a golden colour with brown and black and stark white markings resembling those of African wild dogs. Her face is extended to form a small muzzle and has a very dark pigmentation to it that fades to gold around her eyebrows. She has very large ears, set a bit higher than human ears and shaped much like African wild dog ears. They are furred and dark brown. She has a strange mottled hair colour and hair that reaches her shoulder blades. Her eyes are animalistic and a rich golden brown in colour. Her nails are a bit longer and darker, resembling claws. She has a short, light coloured tail that she despises. Her legs are formed a bit more like a canine's with a hock. Her back feet are extended and paw-like. She can walk on either her whole feet or on her toes. She generally goes without shoes. Her clothing is plain and unremarkable.
Brock Hanover 6'1" and brawny, a look of fitness achieved not from pumping iron at the gym but from being physically active working hard on a daily basis. He was initially caucasian but now has black patches of skin over each eye extending across the cheek bone and covering the ear; in a splash over his nose to his chin; at the joints of his knees and elbows; and in a few large, irregular patches on his torso. His body hair is normal for a caucasian male in quantity but forms dense, curled locks colored white or black depending on what patch of skin it lies over. His body is primarily humanoid, but the last digit of each finger is now a smooth, black, chitinous material, and rather than toes at the ends of his (otherwise human) feet, he has hooves. His face protrudes very slightly, with a "hare lip" and flattened, sheep-like nostril structure, but otherwise has normal human skull features. He has a short, white, woolly goatee adorning his chin, one of the only spots where the hair growing over a body part is a different color from the skin. His hair is short, dense, curly, white. Two massive horns curl from the sides his skull, around his ears, and outwards. A second set yeilding from about the hair line protrude upwards and arch back.
Chrrup Chrrup regularly takes on three different forms at will, and must take on his human form on the nights of the full moon. Human: A rumpled, bewildered man, only partially clothed in a pair of sweatpants and torn jacket. His hair is grey and hangs to his shoulders in ruffled, layered clumps; his eyes are round, wide, and black. He is very pale, with an unhealthy grey tone to his skin. He is, predictably, beak-nosed. His limbs are bony, his shoulders and chest broad. Half-form: A pigeon-headed and -taloned human with weak-muscled, small wings on his shoulders. Reverts to this form under great stress. Pigeon: The standard grey pigeon, marked by swatches of iridescent color, possessed of a strutting walk, and inclined to begging for food.
Flutura Mallard with a caiman’s head. Cheeks and jaws are feathered; nose, belly, and forehead scaled. Does not fly well, but she does not particularly need to; not much bothers something with a caiman’s jaws, even if they are attached to a duck’s body. Largest of the caiman-mallards of the park, the most extensively scaled, and heaviest of jaw. She does not fly well at all, and prefers to stay in the water. She complains that her neck aches, and cannot tuck her head behind a wing to sleep.
Hester A small, round-faced girl with strawberry blonde hair, black eyes, medium-brown skin, and small horns arching from her skull. As a “human”, her fingers are long and dexterous, her build skinny but as awkward as any twelve year old’s. When shifted into “hybrid” form, her legs become an antelope’s hind limbs, build overall becomes more streamlined, face narrows and lengthens, horns grow somewhat longer, and fingers blunt. Full moon nights force her into an awkward shape, a springbok with a human’s torso and abdomen; with legs unsuited to bipedal movement and a trunk that demands it, movement becomes hard. She normally spends this time laying down or leaned against something. Herbivorous. Developed more quickly, both physically and mentally, than a human child.
Idony Goff Nearly three foot long from neck to the tip of her abdomen, Idony has a spider’s body surmounted by a human head. Internally, her lungs, heart, and digestive system are mammalian, her circulatory system a somewhat jumbled mess, veins and arteries pulsing under her hard exoskeleton. Lustrous bronze-and-green chelicerae flank her mouth; she has four eyes, all round and black-green, the skin around them stiff; hard, three-fingered hands tip her two foremost pairs of legs. Her body is otherwise a very large version of a bold jumping spider’s, her head a small version of a human’s. Her hair is black, and her body and limbs are patterned in black and white. She is exclusively a carnivore.
Levent Fentress An odd conglomeration of features both handsome and not-so. His hair is a rich and burnished bronze not often seen in humans, his eyes a glossy black that may earn him the description “sloe-eyed”. However, those eyes bulge just a little too much, and all of his features slope down to culminate in an impressively pointed nose. He is a tall and broad-shouldered fellow, and no faults can be found in his physique. His skin, however, is another matter; a sickly and papery grey, it is particularly rough on his legs, almost scale-like, while the hair on his forearms is black, which makes many suspect that his hair color is not natural. Levent turns into a slightly larger-than-average but otherwise normal capuchinbird at least weekly; going much longer without the change causes depression and physical aches.
Mabel A lolloping, distorted figure, with a terrier’s grinning head and not a spot of fur. Her fingers are clawed, and she normally chooses to walk on the toes of her misshapen feet.
Nitika A ragged woman with strawberry blonde hair hanging shaggy around her shoulders and the freckles on her face standing out sharply against her pale skin – but they are not nearly so striking as her dark brown eyes, which are flat and full of resentment. She is thin and dirty from the hard life she leads, but the shift gives her a certain amount of dignity; the sharp flatness of her is covered in golden fur striped with reddish brown streaks, her face becomes feline and her teeth those of a predator. This partial form, with all of its features in her upper body, is the most animalistic she can become.
Parvana Mallard with a caiman’s head. Cheeks and jaws are feathered; nose, belly, and forehead scaled. Does not fly well, but she does not particularly need to; not much bothers something with a caiman’s jaws, even if they are attached to a duck’s body. Small and agile, with a small head and short neck. In fact, she barely feels any pain, on a normal day.
Radzimierz Greyhound-thin with greyhound-sharp bones under his skin, Rajeem’s eyes are golden, his canine ears always cocked forward, and his skin covered in a gunmetal grey coat of short fur. Although he appears overall human, his sense of smell is sharp and his behavior feral.
Robert Deleon Six feet tall, heavy-set, and with a jackal’s face, Robert would intimidate under the best of circumstances; in a three-piece suit, with ears canted back and his amber-brown eyes heavily lidded in predatory languor, small children flee him. His head is his only nonhuman characteristic; his fur is sandy-blond, with a reddish tint to the muzzle and white at cheek and inner ear. His body language communicates boredom and distaste at all times.
Rust The lower body and hindlimbs are a large fox’s, while the head, chest, and arms are those of a (very small) human. His features are pointed, his ears animalistic, and his hair is fairly short and makes a ruff at neck, throat, and back. Skin is reddish brown, eyes are reddish gold. Fur color is standard to a red fox. Is currently on the thin side.
Tsvetan Borisov As a human, Tsvetan has square bones and broad features. He is stocky, but not quite fat. Damp, red, and often cracked skin puts off most who see him; the vivid crimson of his eyes – further enhanced by irritated and often bloodshot sclera – are also apt to disturb. As a fish, he is a somewhat ragged-finned, average sized cherry barb, red patterned with dark grey. In this form, he has a tendency to list. Change is triggered by emotion and cannot be reversed in less time than six hours.
Vartiter Mallard with a caiman’s head. Cheeks and jaws are feathered; nose, belly, and forehead scaled. Does not fly well, but she does not particularly need to; not much bothers something with a caiman’s jaws, even if they are attached to a duck’s body. A middle-sized bird, with narrow jaws and a bit of hard horn at the tip of her nose which might be the remnants of a bill. A bit underweight.
